Default BBC I PLAYER. Unable to record!

    Hi

I downloaded the trial version of Mediacatcher and cannot seem to download
any programme from BBC I Player, Record is on but all I get is a still picture.
Can somebody please help me with this as I want to buy the full programme
but if it can't do this I can't see the point.

    Thanks Fiona

    Default BBC iPlayer

I'm also having no luck recording from BBC iplayer. I have registered and have the full version. I've selected all the plug-ins. I click 'start recording' and nothing happens at all.
    I have windows XP.

I've just tried recording from iPlayer with no problem at all. Maybe there was a problem when you first tried.

    Default

I just tried it out on a BBC iPlayer video on Vista and it works fine.

I have Firefox as my default browser and opened it from within Media Catcher, ie:

    1. Open Media Catcher.
    2. Click 'Start Recording'
    3. Go to Record > Launch Default Browser
    4. Once Firefox opens, find the URL and start playing the video and it should start recording automatically.

I hope this works for you

Still no luck, funny as I have recorded from here before with no problems,
but when I press record after the video has been playing for 2 minutes I
get the number followed by flv but when I stop recording and play it back
all I get is one still picture, I'm on Windows XP any ideas?

    Thanks Fiona

Have you tried what I suggested yet, ie opening Media Catcher FIRST, then start recording, then launch the browser from within MC and start the video from there?

    Default It works now!!

How the devil does one open Internet Explorer within Media Catcher? Anyway
I came to the conclusion that as it recorded before there must be something wrong with the program so I deleted it and downloaded the newer version which works every time - problem solved so thanks guys for all of your advice.

    Yes indeed.

And the Microsoft supported way to choose the default browser, such as Internet Explorer, is Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs | Set Program Access and Defaults. Media Catcher will launch whatever is ticked on Set Program Access and Defaults as "Choose a default web browser."

If Internet Explorer is your choice, it's pretty much a good habit to start IE from within Media Catcher I think. A lot of people use something other than IE, like Firefox to navigate and record streams. That seems easier.

Default Media Catcher works on streaming, not on downloads

Yes, this program works smoothly on recording streaming video from the iPlayer but not if you try to replay a programme you have downloaded. If I've missed something and there is a way of getting it to pick up a replay from hard disk, please explain!

But it does not capture subtitles! Why not? How can I do this?

As a wake up call to everyone, I predict with absolute certainty that subtitles will become an issue of ever greater importance to all of us.

We are an aging population and 25% of those presently over 60 suffer from hearing loss. Those of us not yet that old are looking at an even worse prognosis because we have lived in the age of amplification and have already damaged our hearing by loud music, rock concerts, MP3 players, etc.

My father, who is now 76, cannot watch TV without subtitles. I provided him with the excellent Sennheisser 810 headset, specially designed for the hard of hearing, which uses infra red to put stereo sound directly into the ear but even that is no good to him now.

So please help me help my Dad and think about the future of all of us as we get older.
