why is replay coverter so slow?

I have a fast computer with dsl. However it takes at least twice the time to convert a video as it does to record it. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?

Hi Reggie
It depends on the format type and the quality - RC often has to re-write the entire file - which can take some time depending on the file size, the format, etc

I've got an i7 processor, 8gb of ram -and have the some formats and streams.
