Unable to set up audio with my video capture

I just purchased AV and I am unable to get the audio to work. I am running XP on a Dell laptop. I have read the help pages and still unable to get anything. I only have two options when running audio test, line in and microphone. I go to my audio properties and I do not see anything about recording options as mentioned in the help pages. Any insight as to how to set my laptop up will be appreciated.

You are going to need to use the universal audio with your system. Go to Video Capture and select Settings. In settings go to Tools-and select the Universal Audi Driver.

I receive the following message when trying to record...."cannot install source filter".
