Converting large AVI files

I'm having trouble converting a large AVI (4 gig) to any other format. It keeps stopping at 8% complete, and then after another 30 seconds, it ends the job with a file that is only 9 seconds long. What it does convert, looks good, but it won't convert all of it.

Has anyone else seen this?

It could be the power that your computer has. That is a large file. Do a fresh boot of your computer prior to doing a conversion to free up resources. Try a different format to see if it works better for you.
