View Full Version : Some archived streams download immediately, others second by second--why?

I've noticed that some streams download immediately--a four-hour program from WAMU.org downloads in 20 seconds--but other programs, say certain (but not all) from the BBC download as if they're
live, second by second. Any reason why? Any setting I can use to fix this?

Hi Jslaff

Depends on the type of stream honestly, some WILL record up to 5 times faster while others will record 'live' as you pointed out.

Mind giving us a SPECIFIC example of a URL that's recording "live" for you so we can take a peak?

Thanks! :)

Sure--try the Today program from BBC Radio 4 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b04lp3x3) or the Big Broadcast from WFUV (http://www.wfuv.org/audio/archives/big-broadcast/big-broadcast-10514).

Seems like normal behavior to me. It's been doing this for years. It will grab MOST streams at much quicker speeds, but depending on the encryption of the stream you're trying to record - it may download/record it real time as well
