Default Content is missing from converted files

I was converting files from avi format from FRAPS video to mp4. The first video I converted turned out OK but was a little bit too dark compared to the original. It had all the content in the converted file. Since that first one, every video file I converted from avi to mp4 and even to 800bps avi has been missing 75% of the content of the original when played back. There are no error codes or anything to indicate there was a problem. I just converted another 7:55 avi video to avi 800 bps and the completed video is only 18 seconds long. The video open on the initial scene and just stays there. A 3:30 avi video converted to mp4 ends up :57 long and just end part way through it. What's there looks and sounds OK but so much content is missing I can't really use the videos.

    Any ideas?
