Optimal volume setting?

Is there a particular volume setting that's best to set your source to before recording, or does RM optimise the sound itself?

Each person has a different taste as to what volume works best for them. Personally, I have the output volume in the settings set for the middle. In the spliting tab I have it set slightly to the right of the far left. I also have optimizing selected so all of my music is at about the same level.
