Default Is there any way to get rid of "You've Got Mail"?

While capturing streaming audio, I am also working -- sending/receiving mails, using FTP, etc. Is there any way to avoid capturing all the background beeps and whirls and other extraneous audio signals that my operation system (Windows) makes while doing normal stuff? It just seems so wierd to be listening to what I've captured and then to hear the AOL voice saying "You've Got Mail" in the middle of a track.

    Know what I mean?

Try audacity and if you can isolate the bits you want removing cut them out - is it RM you are using to record or some other streaming audio recorder, I find I can use RM to record music and also watch TV on my PC at the
same time without it being picked up on my recordings.

You are able to turn off the sounds that your computer makes. Each system is different so do a search on your computer as to how to turn off windows sounds.
