Have you tried making sure the volume on the sound card is turned up?

Your sound card and Replay AV should be set to Stereo Mix if you want to record and listen simultaneously. Alas, Dell, Acer, Vaio and some others signed an agreement with RIAA to delete Stereo Mix from their PCs. You can check on this by going to Control Panel, Sound, Recording, and see if Stereo Mix shows and is enabled. If not, right click anywhere in the box's white space, tick both "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices." If Stereo Mix is an option, it will now show, so click on it, then click Enable (choose it as Default, too, if you want).

Replay AV is shortly to be replaced by a "new radio-oriented recording solution." Applian software mavens: Kindly design this forthcoming offering so Stereo Mix is no longer needed to record and listen simultaneously. Right now, sans Stereo Mix you can use the Replay driver to turnkey record, but then have to manually click Tune to Station. For our application, at any rate, this is a total non-starter, forcing us to purchase HP devices (ugh) and the like because unlike Dell they didn't sign off with RIAA to delete Stereo Mix.

To see how much this applies with any given Dell etc. model, check first, under Sound (Control Panel), to see if Stereo Mix shows (be sure to right click within white space, then tick Show Disabled Devices). Assuming it doesn't, if your Dell etc. has IDT Audio, you can punt around Stereo Mix by selecting the IDT control panel's Recording tab, then selecting Rec. Playback and ticking "Set as default communication device." Then you can choose Rec. Playback in the A/V Settings' Sound Mixer tab and see not only if it works, but also whether it causes crashes -- depending on your configuration, it might. But if you have neither Stereo Mix nor Rec. Playback or are getting freezes, then you can't turnkey record and listen simultaneously; you have to manually press Tune to Station.

This hopefully will be overcome in the forthcoming A/V replacement. Right now, Applian support steers the user to Stream Capture, which doesn't allow for turnkey simultaneous recording and listening. In the meantime, it might help if they at least explained/documented the available options more fully, like above.
