Default Unable to capture RTMP stream in proper format

I recently purchased Replay Media catcher, and it is capturing the particular flv files I want without any difficulty. However, once the files are downloaded, RMC shows the error icon of an exclamation mark in an orange circle icon. When I click on Properties I see:

Unable to save RTMP stream in proper format!
Does the file already exist in storage directory?

When I go to the Storage Directory, the captured files are there (the names are long strings of random characters) there are no file extensions, and windows shows them as unknown file types. However, if I simply rename them and give them the .flv extension, the files play perfectly.

Can anyone suggest why RMC cannot recognise these files and save them correctly? It is a bit of a hassle to have to manually rename everything like this.

    Hi Pete,

What version of RMC are you currently using? Also, specifically, Can you please provide me with the URL of the video you're trying to record, so I can trouble shoot the issue?

For me, non-critical non-urgent. Merely stumbled on link while surfing for aac tools and noticed the behavior.

    Smile same problem for me

Any stream from the page samurai FM produces the same error.
    Link: http://www.samurai.fm/home/
Recording goes smooth until finish and then this message occurs:
"Unable to save RTMP stream in proper format!
Does the file already exist in storage directory?"

    From plugin:Capture Flash RTMP streams
    target file: elite_lukedzierzek_20080722_hi.m4a_720AA459

After that the file cannot be found in the download folder.
Very sad, because I bought that programm only for that page... quick help is appreciated!

    Hello Alaysias,

Even if you manage to download the streams, they get saved as m4a.flv.
To reencode this to mp3 is another crucial step.
You can download the streams with ORBIT DOWNLOADER, activate Grab++ and type in rtmp on the right of the search window (search for fileformat).
Once the stream is downloaded, try to play it with the newest VLC media player. If it works, you can export the file as mp3.
    +Go to streaming exporting wizard
    +select transcode/save to file
    +select your stream
    +select only transcode audio (MP3 192kbs)
    +encapsulation format Mpeg1
    +select location for file
    +start the conversion
You should receive a file *****.mpg
Now do the same procedure with the *****.mpg but for encapsulation format choose RAW (file ending should be mp3)

Hope it helps, I converted already some samurai.fm streams like this and the quality is good.

    Cheers

hi medienheinz, thanks for the quick response!

however, i'm having trouble following your instructions.

where do i type 'rtmp'? in the orbit main window or grab++ window? i'm not sure where to 'search for fileformat'.

when i load the samurai.fm player, all i get from grab++ is the flash_uniplayer.swf.

i'm using orbit version 2.77. i appreciate the help!

The latest version of Replay Media Catcher will capture from samurai.fm. Please uninstall the version you are currently using, reboot then install the latest version.
