When you download music from sites using RMC and streams does this use high bandwidth or copy from your temp files folder?

When using Replay Media Catcher, network bandwidth is used. Video and/or audio streamed across the network is saved to disk by Replay Media Catcher.

In my experience, few sites allow their popular videos to be stored as temporary files like in the browser cache. There will be ads and short clips in temporary files, but usually not much else.

Does it use a noticeable amount of bandwidth or a small amount?

Recording uses the same amount of bandwidth as watching. When watching and recording a one-half hour video at the same time, double the numbers below.

With typical mid or low tier speed, cable or DSL at 3 Mbps down for comparison, recording a one-half hour video would use the approximate equivalent bandwidth of downloading a 150 MB to 175 MB file. This assumes 480p quality video.

A faster connection is capable of receiving higher quality video and correspondingly higher bandwidth during the process. A slower connection might use less bandwidth because most major sites calculate bandwidth and lessen quality to avoid buffering and stuttering video.

The bandwidth benefit to recording is the download bandwidth is only used once. Presuming one watches the recorded file in a player from the hard drive, no bandwidth is used during playback. An Internet conection isn't even needed to watch an RMC recorded video.

As I mentioned earlier, many if not all sites disallow storing videos or audio in temporary files. So returning to watch the same one-half hour video, or some music video, or YouTube clip, or clicking "watch again" consumes bandwidth every time.
