I listen to a lot of audio seminars, webinars and trainings. Is there a way to convert the MP3s to play at a faster speed so that I can listen to say an hour of audio in 30 or 45 minutes.

I don't think there is a feature for this yet but this is a nice idea. Especially when dealing with tutorial audio files. https://imagicon.info/cat/14-16/1.gif
Actually you can. Open the VLC Media Player. Open the media file you wish to play back. Go to the Playback tag. Click on "Faster".
