Although the Applian player is a good working player, it's pretty much the same as several other freeware players. After searching for 2 or 3 days, I finally stumbled on a full featured freeware media player, that gives smooth full-screen playback, and I hope posting this will help someone so they won't waste the time I did searching. It has several parameters that can be tweaked, and if if doesn't work on your machine you may need to tweak one of those parameters. For instance, by default it used the wrong video output driver (changing to directx-fast solved this problem). Check it out:

I Tried the SM Player and at firstI had severe problems with audio/video sync, until I did the following:

In Settings/Preferences/Performance/H264 loop filter--Skip only on HD videos (drop-down menu) with Syncronization box unchecked.

Settings/Preferences/Advanced -- only Correct pts box checked

Now it runs clear and smooth as silk.

All I'm looking for now is a way to convert these Hulu H264 files.

Thanks, I'll try that option for the loop filter. The other option under settings --> advanced doesn't seem to be there on my version. Would either "rebuild index" or "pass short file names to MPlayer" be what you're talking about? I have those as options under Advanced.

Danny

UPDATE: Downloaded the latest version and the "pts" option has been added.

I,ve edited my above post. It should read: In Options/Preferences/Performance/H264 loop filter --Skip only on HD videos (drop-down menu) with Syncronization box unchecked.

Performance and Advanced features should be on the left side in the Preferences box.

My player version is: Version: 0.6.5.1 (SVN r2237)
Using Qt 4.4.2 (compiled with Qt 4.4.2)

Yes, I have the same version. Unfortunately, although the video playback is smooth, certain H264 downloads play several seconds out of sync, even with the adjustments made in "preferences". For those videos I have to be content playing them back with less than fluid motion using FLV player. Oh well....

Hi Guys,

We appreciate all that you put into the forum but would appreciate it if you would stop promoting other programs on the Applian forum. Thanks for understanding.

Um... it wasn't missing!

I've never had a problem with full-screen playback using Applian's FLV player, (even on my dinosaur-era PCs). It plays both tiny web videos and huge 15 GB flv files I captured with RMC. I'm thrilled that they are offering the player for free and are constantly updating it. What more could you ask for?
