Recording seems in a "corrupted" format - not MP3

I have recorded a weekly radio program for months that streams over the interbet w. no problems. Last nite, the program seems to have recorded as usual - but not in an mp3 format. At least WindoowsMedia or Realaudio can't read it. The file length seems right compared to past recordings - 63mb. The file name, instead of "myshowapr02.mp3" is named "myshowapr02.mp3.xxxxxx".
What caused this? is there a fix I can do to resurect the file?

A suggestion is to delete the .xxxxx as it appears that the file didn't finish converting. that should probably correct the issue on this file. Thanks.

I had tried that a couple days ago, before posting. Tried once more , after getting your post - and it worked. Maybe I somehow needed to exit after renaming and re-enter?
