I would really like to be able to record the audio playback from this music notation tool that specializes in guitar music. It uses "General MIDI" for most instruments but guitars and bases play back using a realistic sound engine.

However, NOTHING that I've done with Replay A/V using the "record something you hear right now" feature works.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

In this case you'll have to record using your sound card. If you are running Windows XP this will work best (really tough to record from the sound card on most Vista machines).

In Replay AV go to Files-Settings, then the sound mixer tab. Under "sound card driver to use" set that to match your sound card, then click OK. Now click on Record-Record Audio From Speakers (Quick Audio Record). Configure the preferences on the basic tab, then go to the Recording tab. Set the Audio Recording Method to one that will allow recording form your sound card. These options will be dependent on your sound card type, but you should see something like stereo mix, what you hear, wave out mix or similar. Do not choose Replay AV audio driver as that driver does not use the sound card and won't work for this type of audio recording. When you click OK, Replay AV will start recording whatever is playing on your computer.

Let us know how it goes. If you still have trouble, attach the log file from your latest attempt and we'll work it out.

This is exactly what I have been doing, but no results. Here are the last lines from the log file:

Let me know if this is enough info. I have done this several times and this is all I get out of it. Your website says "probably the software just won't work," but that's a bit hard to understand. If the audio's coming through the soundcard, then what does Replay A/V care what software is producing it?

This log shows you have the Replay AV audio driver selected as the audio recording method. What other options are listed for your sound card in the audio recording method drop-down? Do you have stereo mix or similar available.?

In File menu then settings you need to change the sound card settings to the sound card brand you have. Creative, Real Tech are some common names. As Debbie said do not use the Replay AV driver.

Another way is to go to:
Start menu, settings, control panel, sounds & audio devices. Choose the audio tab. Change the playback and recording types to your sound card device brand. Choose apply and then ok. Close all dialog boxes. Run Replay AV now, go to the file menu and then settings. Look at your sound card settings now. If it doesn't say the sound card device you have then change it. There is a button there that will take you quickly to the sounds and audio devices dialog box I mentioned above. In the recording volume button make sure the checkbox for stereo mix, waveout, what you hear is checked. Choose apply and then ok.
