Had a horrible time getting my new laptop to record from vista.
This may only work for dell computers but similar tools may work on others as well. First thing I had to do was follow these instructions which are time consuming but were well worth my minutes. You will have to scroll down to the vista portion...note my settings were a bit different at end but I did some looking and found mine under 0020 instead of 0007 as was shown in blue...go to http://en.community.dell.com/forums/p/18112824/18235810.aspx#18235810 and go through the motions if desired. After this was accomplished and I rebooted (took 2 reboots b4 new box in speaker section appeared) and unmuted input monitor I had to disable the mic in record tab of sound box. When I then opened up replay i selected audio driver even though audio driver was preselected and tested it by starting and stopping record a few times and the rest is history. I just hope it continues to work until Applian gets kinks worked out with vista and enbeded motherboard sound cards. Good luck... you may need it!
