Is it best to use media catcher or Video capture when recording from the BBC i-player?
The stream produces a *.flv file
whereas video capture can be bitrate=8000 framerate=30 format=WM9

How to get the best potential quality? I have a highish spec PC.

Media Catcher is going to capture from the stream in the native format at the native quality. Video Capture is giong to capture what it sees on the screen. Media Catcher would be best for what you are trying to do.

As a novice I would like to understand the Video Capture recommended settings.

Why is WM9 chosen for high quality full motion with dual core and why with such a low video bitrate when compared to single core?

My scanty knowledge suggests 25 fps, MPEG-2, and a video bitrate of 3000 or more. I have over 400 Gb spare on the HD and the large files retaining maximum quality can be erased after burning to DVD Pal.
