Default Doesn't record when mute is pushed

I have 'record from Windows input device' as the only recording source, but if I push the 'mute' button on my keyboard while recording is in progress, it cuts off the sound to the Freecorder as well. If I change the source to Freecorder audio driver, no sound reaches the Freecorder at all.

Ideas?
