vhs to digital

You all know much more about this stuff than this over 70 woman and I would love your help.
I have 2 American vhs tapes that I would like to convert to digital.
I live in Sweden where the vhs system is PAL. The shops here say that they cannot readily convert the tapes and I am reluctant to let them out of my hands. I have a VCR that plays both American and European tapes. I have Windows Movie Maker on my Lenova 3000 N200 laptop. My son in law sent me this site and I am hoping someone can give me an idea as to what capture product I can buy.
