We're seeing a lot of interest in the free VLC Player, which is a free replacement for Windows Media Player, Real Player, etc. It also plays DVDs, Flash Video files and more, and it is completely open source. We've made an Applian installer for this excellent free product, and if you'd like to try it and report back, that would be awesome!
Our installer is here:
http://www.applian.com/files/VLCPlayerSetup.exe
It's the same program as the latest VLC Player, with the option to try other Applian products, wrapped into one of our installers. We're hoping to attract people who already want to download VLC Player and expose them to our array of recording solutions.
Comments welcome!

Bill,
This means that we can pass this URL onto others who are not part AAC?

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the link, I will do an evaluation and provide feedback to this forum. I am also interested in participating in any beta testing or evaluations, so drop me a note if your R&D team needs any beta testers.
Best regards,
Eric

Hi Floyd,
Let's wait until we release this for real. Probably a week or so. I appreciate your offer to help though.
Thanks,
Bill

I already have VLC and the suite. When I download the installer, it tries to install trial versions of the parts of the suite on my machine. If I allow it to continue, will the trial versions overwrite my installed and registered versions, or will I have duplicate programs installed, and (if so) will this create conflicts? I do like this concept and want to see how it works.

Actually there really isn't a difference between "trial" version and full version, except the trial version isn't registered. Installing version over version, should automatically uninstall the previous version and install the new version. If you have registered the full version; the trial version will be turned on and will become the full version. You will not have duplicate versions, and should not create any conflicts.

Gary

Installed on (two) different machines:
XP Pro 32bit and Vista Ultimate 64bit
Installs were both without issue
Tested with DVDs, MP4, AVI, MP3 and streaming audio and video; all worked without issue.
One thing that I would like to see is a network proxy setting and a XM radio config panel to setup / maintain the session.
Any chance that you will start compiling a 64bit set of products?

If we get more demand for 64-bit products, we'll do it, but the VLC Player we're distributing is basically the same as is offered from their site, with the addition of some of our goodies.
Thanks for the suggestion - we'll keep a lookout for more reasons to maintain a 64-bit version.

Hello,
The version of VLC player in this teaser/installer bundle is outdated and has known security issues.
The updated version 0.8.6e should be downloaded at www.videolan.org
"VLC media player 0.8.6e, VideoLAN Security 0801 and 0802
2008-02-27
This is a bugfix release. VLC media player 0.8.6d and earlier versions suffer from security vulnerabilities in the Web interface, Subtitle demuxer, Real RTSP demuxer, SDL_image library and MP4 demuxer.
Technical details are available in our advisories: SA-0801 and SA-0802.
The usual collection of assorted changes and improvements can be found here.
This release fully supports Mac OS X 10.3.9 once again.
We strongly recommend all users to update to this new version."
I would recommend updating the installer package before public release.
