Problem installing Ask & Record Toolbar

OK, so like a lot of people I have installed the ask toolbar, to be told that I already have one, so uninstalled, searched all of my programs for anything remotely resembling a toolbar, re-started and tried again, and again....:confused:

Please send me a list of any toolbars/add-ons that you have installed.

I found a workaround. I had no other toolbars and still had the problem, basically I downloaded the file, went to "run" but at that point the ask toolbar appeared in my list of programs even though it wasn't actually installed, so it told me every time I had it when in fact I hadn't run it.
So I opened it from programs as explained in my other post...working fine but not as a toolbar!
