A question has been raised over in the SlingCommunity forums about the use of the At-Large Recorder with SlingBox 2.0. I have not heard any discussion about this and said that I would try to find out if this is known at this time. Thanks for any information you can provide.

At this time it hasn't been released. We are not able to test it until that time. Thanks. If you know differently please let us know.

Okay, there is now a public beta of SlingPlayer 2.0 available:) on the Sling Media site. Has anybody installed it:rolleyes:. I will install the player, but am leary:confused: of updating the firmware until I know that it will work with the At-Large recorder. Any advice would be appreciated.

At the present time our program is not going to work with the new Slingbox. Our developer is aware of this issue. Also, as a note, if you try the new version of Slingbox you are not able to roll back to a previous version so if you want to continue to use At Large Recorder at this time be careful.

UGH! I read this post one day too late! Is this gonna be a major problem that won't be fixed for a while or will a simple patch be out soon? I do hope there is some kind of work around.

At this time we don't have a date set for anything on this. It is still really new technology and looks like it has been changed a lot. It is going to take the developer a lot of work for this one, I'm afraid.

I have read that slingplayer v1.2 beta previously was able to change the firmware. I have not been able to find it anywhere and if someone knows where to download it from I would gladly give it a test to see if the problem could be solved till new software comes about.

OK I finally got the problem solved and rolled back. First Uninstall the new 2.0 beta version. Then install Slingplayer 1.5. Remove the proper firmware version file for the type of unit you have and place it in a location that you will remember. If you don't know which firmware version will work for your particular slingbox then just pull them all out an figure out later. They are located in the C:\program files\slingmedia folder. Then download slingplayer v1.2 beta. I found with some really deep digging and have uploaded it to a file sharing site. Here it is.
http://www.mediafire.com/?1j3tyeev7wz
Then install it. Next go to Slingbox properties\Slingbox configuration and select update firmware. Select the proper firmware you saved from v1.5 and that's all. Lastly uninstall or just update back to v1.5 that's up to you. Now my At-Large Recorder is working as it was before.
After all that I think you can just do the same thing with version 1.5. After I reinstalled it I saw the update firmware on this build as well. Oh well still a learning lesson. Good luck.

Not a hard fix just took me forever to figure it out. In hind sight the answer was pretty much in front of my face I just over looked it.

I have a couple of questions for you dipdog21. First, in what way did the At-Large Recorder not work for you after upgrading your SlingBox? For me, I was able to connect to my SlingBox SOLO, but the recordings were fuzzy -- I was trying to record some of the Olympic games and the text graphics that NBC put up were almost unreadable.

Second, I tried to the fix you described as well, but I was unable to backout or re-install the old firmware from the new firmware that the SlingPlayer 2.0 Beta upgrade performed on my SlingBox SOLO. When I went to revered my SlingPlayer back to version 1.5, I went to the upgrade firmware utility and selected the SlingboxSoloFwV1_0_13Hw1_0_1Current.bin file. I got the following errror: "Slingbox firmware in the specified file is OLDER than current Slingbox firmware. Please select a NEWER firmware image."

I called SlingBox tech support and the level 1 tech talked to a level 2 tech who told him that the firmware cannot be downgraded to a previous build. Sorry for the long post, but I really want to be able to use the At-Large recorder to capture sharp video from the SlingBox feed again and maybe you did something that I missed. Thanks in advance.

Did you install the v.1.2 beta from the link I posted. It may be that the 1.5 version with the firmware update might only work with newer firmware not older. The tech support guy is mistaken. As long as you go about the way I described in my post. This is a game videos I did after the 2.0 upgrade:

And this is a game video I did after the downgrade of firmware. There is a very big difference.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, I didn't try to downgrade my firmware with SlingPlayer 1.2 earlier, but I tried it after work and it worked! So now I am running the firmware that seems to have came with version 1.5, but my captured video from At-Large Recorder is still fuzzy (just like your video in http://www.wegame.com/watch/Bad_Test/). The firmware I have installed is v1.0.13 (with a timestamp of 9/21/2007). I cold-booted my SlingBox as well to try and make sure it is running the right firmware. Uugghhh... I'll keep try more things to figure this out.

Whoa! I just tried the Recorder again after my last message and it captured a sharper video like from before the upgrade again! I think I forgot to try another capture after cold-booting the SlingBox (I had hit the reset button earlier, but I guess that wasn't enough). The important thing is that it works again! Thanks a bunch dipdog21 -- you saved me a lot of extra aggravation with your help!

Greetings,

Many people have had problems not just with At Large Recorder 2 after updating the Slingplayer software and the Slingbox firmware, but also having trouble getting their Slingboxes to stream at a constant high speed. I was one who updated my Slingplayer software to 2.0 Beta and then updated my Slingbox Pro's firmware. I wasn't able to stream at a constant speed and I wasn't able to use the At Large Video Recorder 2 program. Major bummer. Slingmedia techs were no help whatsoever and told me it was impossible to downgrade the firmware once it had been updated! Not true. I read through the Slingcommunity support forums and finally pieced together a successful work-around. I rolled back my Slingbox firmware and installed Slingplayer ver. 1.4 and now I'm streaming and recording with At Large Recorder 2 as before. I posted my results and a step by step "How To" in the Slingcommunity forums. Here are the links if you need help with this well documented problem.

At the present time our program is not going to work with the new Slingbox.

Cheryl,
What do you man with the new Slingbox? What new Slingbox? Do you mean a Slingbox hat has the latest firmware on it? My pro and classic work just fine with At-Large and the new firmware.
Can you expound?

Any news on this? I see it's been a month since the initial "our programmer is aware..." response. I just purchased At-Large today and am disappointed to find this out afterwards..

Hi All,

At Large Recorder will work with SlingPlayer 2.0 and the new Slingbox firmware. So long as your Slingbox is correctly setup for remote internet viewing. Just make sure that your router settings are correct and that you have the latest version firmware for your router installed. After upgrading your SlingPlayer software and Slingbox firmware, make sure that you re-run the SlingPlayer setup wizard and network assistant. Your router settings must be setup successfully for remote viewing in order for At-Large Recorder to work properly.

Debbie:

What has changed? Are you refering to the new Beta version - or the earlier updates to SlingBox/SlingPlayer?

Thanks for any additional details you can provide.

Okay - I finally bit the bullet. After taking my old Tablet PC in for repairs, I had to reinstall all my favorite software - including SlingPlayer. I did this install in phases.

First, I installed just the new player software - and did not authorize the firmware to upgrade. The basic player worked - though I could not use the newer Program Guide. Since I had made no changes to the firmware, the At-Large Recorder still worked after I slowed down the LAN speed to 400 kbs using the advanced settings.
Second, I allowed the firmware to complete its upgrade. The new player and Program Guide worked without problems. I then held my breath as I tried the At-Large Recorder. As reported earlier, the At-Large recorder still worked. I also tried the old version of the SlingPlayer installed on a newer Vista laptop. It still worked as well.
Finally, I upgraded my Vista to SlingPlayer 2.0. Again, the Player worked without problems, as did the At-Large Recorder. Again, I slowed down the Recorder to something less than the LAN default of 2000-3000 kbs. I have found 400 kbs works well, but it may be possible to use a faster setting.

I am still curious as to why others (both Applian staff and users) originally reported problems. That being said, there are some features I would like to see in an upgrade to the At-Large Recorder:

I had to adjust the stream speed in order to make a recording - this process should be detectable by the software.
Tie the recorder to a Program Guide such as that provided by the new SlingPlayer or as available from "TitanTV.com"
Add the ability to schedule several repeatable recordings in a single recorder window - rather than having to open multiple instances of the At-Large Recorder.
Given the growing base of multiple processor machines, might it be possible to record the same stream that is being viewed on the SlingPlayer. Sling promised this as a feature of the SlingPlayer 2.0, but it was not delivered.
There have been reported problems between the new SlingBox HD and the At-Large Recorder. Verify these problems and make needed changes to support the new hardware.

Thank you for listening -

Floyd

I'm not sure why I can't get it to work. I just purchased the Slingbox Solo and have the new firmware and beta 2.0 solftware. Also, it is set for remote internet viewing. I don't use a router as my provider set me up with a wireless modem which has the latest firmware. I don't know how to check if my modem is set up for remote viewing but the slingbox had no trouble setting up for remote viewing.
When I try the At Large Recorder demo, I can't get past the test.
Any ideas? Thanks.:(

Where ever you are trying At-Large Recorder, does Slingplayer work at that location?

I found this in the FAQ for tec trouble. It solved my problems. Thanks.

If you can connect remotely but have trouble connecting when on your local LAN, try using the IP address of your Slingbox in the Direct Connection area of At-Large Recorder's recording settings

All right after reading this quote I went ahead and re-tried the new slingplayer. Even with everything set properly on the router side and the slingplayer side I still have the same problem. The recording comes up as 320x240 when the recording setting is set for 640x480. Nothing has changed. I am using a dlink dgl-4300. Also I am using it at the local level not even over the internet. I don't know what to say besides now I have to flip back to the previous firmware again. Thanks.

Which SlingPlayer model are you using?

The At-Large Recorder can only record at the resolution being used by the SlingPlayer that you own. Since I own the original Classic (actually two of them), I can only record at 320x240 - only if I were to buy a newer model which streams at 640x480 would I be able to record at the higher resolution. The new SlingPlayer firmware works with either model - but is still limited by the whatever hardware you own.

Does that explain what you are seeing?

Floyd

I don't think that was ever mentioned as being a problem in this thread. It started as ALR 2.0 not working with Slingplayer 2.0.

Debbie McCormick never said in her post, but Slingplayer 2.0 uses a different port configuration from slingbox to the client software (Slingplayer 2.0.). Client <-> server chat and port setup is compleatly different from older versions. I'm pretty sure thats the reason for her firewall concerns.

Sorry, that does not solve your problem but might explain the progression of this thread.

I am having a problem with At-Large 2.4 and SlingPlayer 2.0. The recording appears to work fine (so I know it's not a firewall problem), but then the asf recording contains only sound, and no video. With SlingPlayer 1.5, it works fine. Does anyone know why it's doing this, or how to resolve it? Thanks.
