Ask and record, why very many files?

When I'm recording audio with Ask and record toolbar, the recording splits in very many files. Some files is only 1 sec, and some files are over 1 hour.
(I recorded a long audiobook), Why?

Is there a new file when it is silence in the audio?





I'm sorry for my poor english... :-(
