I wasn't sure whether to start a new thread with this but I thought it might get complicated to add to another users thread.

I've used Freecorder successfully on Firefox for quite a while. The version I had used was Freecorder 3.0.1. When Firefox was recently updated to 3.5, Freecorder was disabled following the update as it wasn't deemed compatible. I followed the links, came to your site and installed Ask & Record 4.01. I can't remember the exact sequence I'm afraid and I'm not sure whether I uninstalled Freecorder before installing Ask & Record toolbar. During the installation, I unchecke the two boxes to make Ask.com my default search engine and the other to make ask.com my home page.

The symptom I now have is that the Ask & Record toolbar is installed perfectly as an add-on in Internet Explorer and it works just fine but it is not available in Firefox. The only toolbars available in Firefox are the standard Navigation and Bookmarks.

If I go to Control Panel, Programs and Features, I see "Ask & Record Toolbar" with the "Ask" logo next to it v1.4.4.0, also "Ask & Record Toolbar 4.01".

The toolbar is obviously installed on the system but there is no link to it from Firefox. Is there perhaps anything I can link in to Firefox to point to the installed Ask & Record toolbar?

I have tried various combinations of uninstalling the toolbar and rebooting but nothing seems to work.

I'm not sure it's relevant but I am using IE 8.0.6001.18783 on Vista Home Premium SP2.

I have made a little progress here. I completely uninstalled Ask & Record, I also uninstalled Firefox. The first Firefox uninstall didn't fix the problem. I had to uninstall Firefox, getting rid of all my customisations, bookmarks, add-ons which was a bit of a pain really.

I re-installed Firefox from scratch. I then installed the Ask & Record toolbar and it reappeared when I restarted Firefox. Ask & Record now seems to work on a cursory test, recording a few seconds streaming audio output from the BBC web site - well I do live in the UK.... :)

Now that it is sort of working, I have noticed a significant problem. I wanted to change some settings (bit rates, location to put recordings) and I found that I could only do this if it's the first thing I do after I start Firefox. "Record Audio" on the toolbar seems to behave in the same way, that it only works if it's the first thing you do with Firefox. This is just about OK but it's not very good really.

I hope this helps.

Try updating the toolbar.
In Firefox go to Tools>Add-ons, click on Extensions, then click the Find Updates button.
This worked for me with Freecorder, not sure about Ask&Record.

I am having problems as well. Ask and Record toolbar only works once when I start Firefox. If I capture a stream, save it, and then click "Record Audio" Agian to capture a new stream, the buttons no longer work. Help!

Yep, that's exactly the symptom I had in my second post. If you just exit from Firefox, go back in again it works but only the first time you do anything with Ask & Record. It's not very good to say the least!

Thanks for the suggestion but it didn't work with Ask & Record.

(By the way, I presume your forum name is a reference to album Led Zep 4. Nice one... :) )

Anyone from Applian got any comment to make on this and similar threads?

I just had an idea which might give you some more information.

I never use Internet Explorer as I much prefer Firefox but have just started up IE v8.0.6001.18783 on my PC. I tried the Ask & Record Toolbar and it works just fine. I can change settings, record, stop recording, start recording again, all is well.

Ask & Record from Firefox 3.5.1 still doesn't work properly as I described earlier. That seems to imply that the integration with Firefox is the problem.
