Give the new Ask & Record Toolbar a try. The new toolbar lets you download, record and convert all kinds of Internet Video and Audio, right from within your browser. It's the only tool that combines a powerful video downloader, high quality analog sound recorder, and converter all in one. And it's totally FREE.

FWIW, I downloaded the new (beta) toolbar, and it installed into both IE6 and Firefox 3 with no hassle (XP SP3).
HOWEVER, here's what I saw:
1. there's no way to modify what's shown on the toolbar, i.e. I can't get rid of things I don't use;
2. there's no Pause button;
3. when I clicked Record, my firewall pointed out that "Application 'Audio Recorder...' is trying to establish TCP connection with... 128.121.122.50:80"... Allowing the connection brings up a little window that says "Wating for audio..." (yep, it's a typo, but that's not the point)...
The point is that apparently I have to connect to Applian to record anything! No, No, No! I'll wait to see feedback to this message, but, I will uninstall the product if I have to go outside my own pc to use it. Period.

port 80 is HTTP traffic. There is an HTTP window at the bottom of the audio window with information about audio recording.

Thanks, Andy. I do know what port 80 is.
So, are you saying that my A&R Toolbar has to connect to your site every time it runs in order to pull down a message about recording?
C'mon, now, even the rawest recruit programmer would make that message a part of the app's code...
An application program linking back to the Mother Site when it runs can only mean one thing - Big Mama is watching you! As I said before, I don't like it.
A lot of us are very frustrated about the making of multiple MP3 files on audio because of the detection of silence. It might help if the time before creating another file was increased, or changable, say from 1 second to 5 or 10 seconds.
Can this be a possibility ?

There is no setting for this available and we have no immediate plans of adding it. If you are looking for a more robust audio recorder I would recommend using Replay AV (http://applian.com/replay-av/demo.php) or Replay Music (http://www.applian.com/replay-music/).

That would be nice I agree. Meanwhile, it's possible to knit the files together using a free program called mp3directcut. It's fairly simple to use and you can also edit bits out of the recording. Also, crucially, it doesn't decode and encode the mp3 but edits it drectly, so you don't lose any quality.
Mind you, I recorded a 2 hour program recently with the A&R Toolbar that is in 36 files so that will take me a while to knit together!
