I used at-large recorder for about 6 months with my computer without problems. I purchased a new computer and installed the program and I keep getting the error "Error: Timeout occured when trying to receive data" when I try to record. The problem is so bad that the recorder is useless to me.

It took me a while to figure this out. I would program my recorder to record programs and when I returned home at the end of the day and wanted to watch what I had recorded I would only end up watching the first 5 minutes or 15 minutes and that was it. The recording had ended and there was no message. After a couple of weeks one day I noticed that it stopped recording after only 2 minutes and the "Error: Timeout occured when trying to receive data" appeared in read. I have installed the recorder on another computer that I have and I don't have that problem with the other computer but I'm not interested in recording on the other computer.

The time that it records before it stops recording and gives me an error message is random. It can be anywhere between 2 minutes to 90 minutes but it always happens and most of the time is within 15 minutes.

Any insight would be appreciated.

I have a couple of questions:

Did your previous system use a wired or wireless connection?
Does your new system use a wired or wireless connection?

Did you make any adjustments to the connection speed used by the At-Large Recorder? This could be true of either your previous system or the newer system.

Did you do any other tweaking to your previous At-Large installation that you may have forgotten to port over to the new installation?

Just some thoughts - let me know if they help.

Taxman99,

I have experienced similar problem with this error. Any update on successful fix you've made to this problem.

Thanks!

I have the exact same problem, but have been able to replicate it:

This problem happens on my machine (with everything still the same, from old setup to new setup; I'm an IT specialist, so I know it's true! :^) ) when the file indexes itself every 10-11 minutes. After that, it gives me the red error message:

Error: timeout occured when trying to receive data

Are there any admins or tech folks from applian reading these messages? Does anyone know how to get rid of this? At-Large is useless on my machine if this doesn't work. Never had this issue before. Thanks!

Hey all, if you're still having problems, this is what I got from Support:

This is a connection related issue. If you have not configured Port Forwarding on your router for your Slingbox, that could be a likely cause of the connection problem (even if SlingPlayer plays fine). Here is a link to Sling Media’s tutorials on configuring Port Forwarding on your router for your Slingbox:

http://support.slingmedia.com/get/network-assistant.html

Also, if you are recording when on your local LAN, try using the IP address of your Slingbox in the Direct Connection area of At-Large Recorder's recording settings.

Also, be sure to give At-Large Recorder access permissions in any firewall or security software that you may be using.

If you continue to have trouble, please try setting the recording options to their defaults and let me know if the issue persists. On the second recording screen, click the "advanced" button, then click the "default" button and try recording again.

Good luck!

This advice should solve the issue.

I have the same error and it's VERY annoying! Makes ALR completely useless. I know my port forwarding is set up correctly as 1) I used Sling's set-up utility and 2) it works everywhere (in home, overseas, on my Blackberry, etc).

Any other suggestions? Great application IF the scheduling worked properly.

I tried a four hour recording today. Changed to a hardwired connection and the bitrate to 400. Recorded for 1 hr 9 mins until it failed saying "Error: Timeout occurred when trying to receive data" again.

Applian says it's a known issue with no solution at this point and nothing scheduled. Considering this app has been out for over a year and this thread was began a year ago I doubt Applian is doing much to fix this known issue. Tech Support suggests that I just get a refund.

Gee, thanks for nothing.

Help, getting the same issues. ALR was working fine for along time and suddenly this starts happening. Port forwarding is fine.

My slingplayer plays no problem.

At Large starts recoding no problem but then after so many x seconds it stops for no reason saying timeout occured when trying to receive data.

I am using a slingbox solo.

Help!
